Russell Wilson traded to Broncos in blockbuster deal

The Denver Broncos have acquired nine-time Pro Bowl and Super Bowl winning quarterback Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks for a hefty price.

The Broncos gave up quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant, defensive end Shelby Harris plus two first- and second-round picks apiece and a fifth-round selection.

This comes at a shock after Denver seemingly were the favorite to sign back-to-back MVP Aaron Rodgers for much of the offseason. But nevertheless, Denver finally gets an elite signal caller; something they’ve been trying to find for years.

The trade instantly pushes Denver into a contender position, giving them a stability at the quarterback position that they haven’t experienced since the Peyton Manning era. Denver has been through 10 different starting quarterbacks since Manning’s departure.

As for Seattle, they lose their signal-caller but get a pretty good haul in return. If Lock is slated to start, he’ll be surrounded by a receiving core that contains D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Fant. The defense also gets a much-needed buff in Harris that adds more stability to the defensive front seven.

Seattle also acquired a haul of draft picks that includes this year’s ninth-overall pick in the NFL Draft, clearly signaling the franchise's direction to go into a rebuild.

Wilson is under contract until 2024 with a salary cap hit of $37 million for the 2022 season.

The trade is pending a physical and Wilson's approval.
