Diffusing Dynamite Special Edition

Everything that happened on a special late night episode of AEW's premier show

(AEW)

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) fans were treated to a special one-hour episode of Dynamite Tuesday night.

The card featured three matches, including a grudge match between Anna Jay of Darker Order vs Brandi Rhodes and Shawn Spears took on Matt Sydal.

Fans had been buzzing about the card’s final match since last week, which saw Scorpio Sky of SoCal Uncensored take on independent wrestling sensation Ben Carter.

Sky’s opponent has a limited amount of experience under his belt, but he was notably trained by wrestling superstar Seth Rollins. If Tuesday night was your first exposure to Carter, he’s definitely someone to keep an eye on over the next few years.

He recently had an impressive performance on AEW Dark in a match against Ricky Starks.

As always Gavin Axelrod and Joseph Casciaro have you covered when it comes to all things AEW.

Keep reading to find out what went down on Late Night Dynamite.

Scorpio Sky def. Ben Carter

(AEW)

This was a tremendous fast paced match. Ben Carter wrestled like a season veteran for someone who is 22-years-old.

Carter had control most of the match and was able to showcase his athletic, high-flying style. AEW star Chris Jericho was on commentary Tuesday evening and seemed to be super impressed.

Scorpio Sky deserves a lot of credit here too. Rather than chase a win, Sky allowed Carter to get a plethora of offense in.

It’s been an interesting few months for Sky, who failed to defeat Cody for the TNT Championship on Aug. 12. After the match he said his intentions were still set on the title.

Sky worked a more vicious style than we’re used to seeing from him in this one. He brought out a nice selection of submission moves and delivered some brutal looking kicks to his opponent.

One of the most impressive sequences of the match was Carter hitting his Frozen In Time frog splash. The 22-year-old literally floated in the air before crashing down on Sky.

This match had an excellent pace and at times it even looked as though Carter would pull off the win. However, it was Sky who would hit his finisher for the win, almost out of nowhere.

Following the match, Sky acknowledged the fact he barely beat Carter and then helped his opponent off the mat in a show of respect.

Anna Jay def. Brandi Rhodes

(AEW)

The grudge match between Anna Jay and Brandi Rhodes went a lot better than expected.

Rhodes has never been known for her in-ring abilities and Jay is still very new to wrestling, but their showdown was great. It was a quick yet very effective match in terms of storytelling.

Jay was on the receiving end of most of the offense in this one, which is probably because she has a limited moveset. To her credit, Rhodes did a great job of carrying and facilitating the match.

Just as it looked as though Anna Jay would emerge victorious, Rhodes began to pick up steam and mount a comeback. In fact, she even hit her finishing move Shot Of Brandi, which should’ve ended the match.

Rhodes went for the cover, but Evil Uno and Stu Grayson made their way down to the ring to distract referee Paul Turner. This gave Jay time to recover and kick out when Turner’s attention eventually returned to the match.

Following this sequence of events, Jay delivered a sidekick to Rhodes and choked her out with the Queen Slayer, a sleeper hold, which she used to win the match.

Shawn Spears def. Matt Sydal

(AEW)

Shawn Spears put on his best in-ring performance since his TNT Championship Tournament match against Cody back in April, Tuesday.

Spears has been positioned as a strong loser type character on Dynamite, but on AEW Dark he racks up a some wins. It was definitely refreshing to see him come out on top here.

The story of this match centred on Sydal eliminating Spears during the Casino Battle Royale Sept. 5 at All Out.

It was a great match, which featured a combination of technical wrestling, high-flying and strong strikes.

Sydal was in control for most of the match and it even looked like he’d come out on top. However, Spears’ manager subtly loaded a steel plate into his client’s glove while he was down on the outside.

Neither Sydal nor referee Bryce Remsburg noticed this turn of events.

Spears was able to strike Sydal in the head and used the glove to create a greater impact before hitting his finisher C4, for the win.

What does the future hold for Shawn Spears? Perhaps this is the beginning of a more serious run for Spears, or maybe we’ll get a rematch between these two in the near future.

Tonight: Catch another episode of AEW Dynamite during its regular time slot, featuring a loaded six-man tag match and a TNT Championship match between Mr. Brodie Lee and Orange Cassidy.
