AEW's second anniversary was celebrated in epic fashion
By Gavin Axelrod
All Elite Wrestling (AEW) rolled into Philadelphia Wednesday night for its second every anniversary show.
The card absolutely loaded with a high-octane main event, TNT Title defense and Hikaru Shida took on Serena Deeb in a quest to get her 50th win.
Elsewhere on the show, Darby Allin was victorious, the tension between Cody Rhodes and Arn Anderson intensified and Malakai Black Emerged as a challenger for Dante Martin. We also got a huge announcement that a TBS Title will be coming soon to AEW and it will be on the line in a tournament!
As always Gavin Axelrod and Joseph Casciaro have you covered on all things, Dynamite!
Opening match goes crazy
(AEW)
While The Elite were victorious Wednesday night, it was Luchasaurus that stole the show. Everyone’s favourite wrestling dinosaur was like a house on fire and was absolutely unstoppable.
It was surreal to see Bryan Danielson mixing it up with Adam Cole and even crazier to see Christian Cage in the ring with Cole too. Danielson, Cage and Jurassic Express have formed a nice babyface faction in order to combat the top heels in The Elite.
After Wednesday’s cheap finish, it’s clear that these two sides are far from over with each other. The world still eagerly awaits the Danielson-Omega rematch.
Sammy Guevara successful in first defense
(AEW)
The self-proclaimed “Best Ever” came out on top in his first defense of the TNT Title against Bobby Fish.
However, after the match, American Top Team emerged and beat Guevara. Chris Jericho and Jake Hager made the save though and it looks like we’re set for an Inner Circle reunion.
Going forward it looks like Scorpio Sky will be challenging for the TNT Title. Sky has unsuccessfully faced Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin in attempts to win the belt, so maybe this third time will be the charm?
Shida stunned by Deeb
(AEW)
Serena Deeb defeated Hikaru Shida, spoiling the former AEW Women’s World Champion’s attempt to record her 50th win.
This match was an absolute clinic and had great limb-focussed wrestling. If you missed this match, definitely check it out.
After the contest, Deeb cemented herself as a full-blown heel. She attacked Shida with an award plaque, with a devastating shot to the skull.
Last chance saloon
(AEW)
It’s time for some Cowboy Sh*t once again in AEW as ‘Hangman’ Adam Page made his return and won the Casino Ladder Match.
We haven’t seen Page in months, but now he’ll be on the receiving end of an AEW Title shot. However, when asked by Tony Schiavone after the show, Page wouldn’t say when he’d be cashing in for an opportunity to dethrone Kenny Omega.
With all the new additions in AEW, it’s amazing to see the company’s true main character back in action. Saddle up, our cowboy is back!
