Diffusing Dynamite Jan. 28

The Jan. 28 edition of AEW Dynamite was highlighted by a Bullet Club main event

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) was coming off one of their weaker episodes of Dynamite in quite some time, so they came out tonight looking to redeem themselves. This episode of Dynamite also featured the first ever AEW Awards, so we could look back at some of the best parts of 2020.

The show that was announced was very intriguing; it included Eddie Kingston vs Lance Archer, ‘Hangman’ Adam Page defeated Ryan Nemeth, Chris Jericho and MJF defeat Varsity Blonds and Britt Baker vs Shanna. Also announced was a massive 8-man tag match with AEW Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks teaming with Impact Tag Team Champions, The Good Brothers to take on Dark Order and finally Jungle Boy would battle with Dax Harwood of FTR.

AEW also advertised Sting and TNT Champion Darby Allin talking about their street fight at Revolution, Jon Moxley speaks about the Beach Break main event and Cody Rhodes would respond to Shaq’s challenge.

As always Joseph Casciaro and Gavin Axelrod have you covered on everything you need to know about this episode of Dynamite!

Eddie and the family screw Archer

The opening contest of Dynamite saw Lance Archer taking on Eddie Kingston, prior to the match Archer sent his manager Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts to the back so he could win alone. This worked for Archer for quite some time as he maintained control and just as it looked like he was about to defeat Kingston he was distracted.

The Butcher and The Blade dragged out a beaten down Jake Roberts from the back and as that took Archer's attention, The Bunny came out of the crowd and handed Kingston some brass knuckles.

Kingston then drilled a spinning backfist to the face of Archer and stole the win. After the match Kingston and his family continued the beatdown and hit Archer with a second backfist with the brass knuckles. This feud between Archer and Kingston is clearly far from over.

Darby and Sting send a message

Last week it was announced that at AEW’s next pay-per-view Revolution there would be a street fight between Team Taz and Sting and TNT Champion Darby Allin. Tonight Sting and Darby had a message for Team Taz, and it was quite the strong message.

Sting started by saying he is not a ‘hoodlum’ like Team Taz says he is, but Darby is a ‘hoodlum.’ Darby then said that is because on the streets it doesn’t matter if you play clean or dirty, it’s all about survival.

He then threw his skateboard through a glass window and said he is a ‘hoodlum,’ but that makes him no different than Sting. Sting then took his bat and broke a bunch of windows as well, and he then confirmed he is a ‘hoodlum’ and at Revolution it was showtime.

The Bastard has something to say

Tonight on Dynamite a video package aired from ‘The Bastard’ PAC, and it was because he had a message for Kenny Omega. PAC is tired of Kenny running around like he runs the place with his little messenger Don Callis.

PAC then had one final message for Kenny before next week and the six-man tag, “You hurt us, we hurt you… next week you face the consequences.”

Cody sends his answer

(Twitter via @AEW)

Cody Rhodes was on the show tonight in order to answer Shaq and Jade Cargill and the problems they have with him and his wife Brandi. Cody seemed to be stuck at a ‘cross-rhodes’ and he was not sure if competing against Shaq and Jade was something he could do without his wife.

As he was thinking about it Arn Anderson got on the microphone and told Cody that he may not want to miss out on this opportunity before he becomes a father. He then said he may need some added fire in order to take down Jade, and that is when Red Velvet made her way to the ring.

Red Velvet said she is coming for Jade and she cannot wait to get her hands on her, this obviously caught Cody’s attention. So, from the looks of it at Revolution we will see Cody team up with Red Velvet to take on Shaq and Jade.

Matt Hardy watching Hangman

(Twitter via @AEW)

During ‘Hangman’ Adam Page’s match tonight he had a visitor in his corner, Matt Hardy, and it seemed as though he was rooting for the cowboy. After the match Tony Schiavone went to the ring to find out what Hardy wanted from Hangman.

Matt said he’s been watching Hangman for months and he is worried about him and he sees how sad he is. Matt knows that The Elite really hurt Hangman and that he truly cared about Omega and The Young Bucks.

Matt said that he will be there for Hangman and he is now welcome to use his dressing room so he is not by himself. It seems as though Matt is trying to help Page, but is it with good intentions or is he in the words of Gavin ‘trying to weaponize the cowboy?’

Jungle Boy steals the show

After the long feud that has been going on between FTR and Jurassic Express, tonight on Dynamite Dax Harwood squared off with Jungle Boy. These two stole the show and absolutely tore the house down, this match came on the heels of FTR defeating The Express a few weeks ago.

One stipulation on this match was that Luchasaurus, Tully Blanchard and Cash Wheeler would be handcuffed together so they couldn’t get involved. To close the match Jungle Boy was able to get Dax to submit to a snare trap and get the huge upset victory.

This then led to an outraged FTR trio and once the handcuffs came off Tully threw salt into the eyes of Luchasaurus and then Wheeler threw him into the ring post. All three men then jumped in the ring to attack Jungle Boy and hit an assisted suplex.

Luchasaurus then returned to the ring and the FTR trio hit him with a spike piledriver and they then handcuffed him to the ropes. They then proceeded to cut the horns off of Luchasaurus’ mask and then the locker room came out to make the save.

I assume this leads to a rubber match between the two teams at Revolution, and I expect an excellent match!

More Inner Circle issues

(Twitter via @AEW)

In a very brief backstage segment we saw more problems emerge in The Inner Circle between MJF and Sammy Guevara. Sammy had one simple message and it was that he knows exactly what MJF is doing and it won’t work. Both men then locked eyes nose to nose, the meltdown between these two is very close.

Riho is back in the states

Last week AEW announced the women’s eliminator tournament in order to find the next challenger for Hikaru Shida’s Women’s Championship. The first match in this tournament was announced tonight on the American side of the bracket and it is Serena Deeb vs Riho!

Bullet Club ups and downs

(Twitter via @AEW)

The main event of Dynamite was AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks teaming up with Impact Tag Team Champions The Good Brothers to take on Dark Order. Pre-match in a promo The Good Brothers and The Bucks were hyping themselves up as Bullet Club and all seemed well until Kenny Omega and Don Callis showed up.

Omega said he had something to talk about with The Bucks and then a bandaged up Callis said that it was The Bucks that assaulted him. However, before answering The Bucks music hit and they went out to the ring.

Bullet Club looked great in the match with Dark Order, and the match finished after a Magic Killer, Meltzer Driver sequence. After the match Matt Jackson talked on next week's tag team battle royal, saying that if The Bucks win they can pick whoever they want to face at Revolution and then cryptically looked towards The Good Brothers.

If Matt and Nick win next week could we see an all Bullet Club tag match come Revolution, but they seem to be fine as they hit the too sweet right after as a sign of friendship. That is when Rey Fenix made his way to the ring to take out Bullet Club, he managed to take out the bucks, but then the numbers caught up to him.

Then Jon Moxley made his way out of the crowd to make the save, Mox and Fenix were able to clear house in the ring. Then as Mox had his back turned, Kenny Omega came running from the back with his pointy shoe in hand to attack.

Good thing Mox turned around in time and was able to catch Omega and hit him with a paradigm to shift to close Dynamite. The six-man tag main event next week should be an absolute brawl with all the bad blood leading to this match.

Next Week: Jon Moxley, PAC, Rey Fenix vs Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers, Tag Team battle royal and Thunder Rosa vs Britt Baker!
