Analysis: Avalanche trade Rantanen to Hurricanes for Necas, more

By Abhinav Tirumala

On Friday, the Colorado Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks came together for one of the biggest trades in recent NHL history.

The Avalanche sent Mikko Rantanen to the Hurricanes, with Chicago retaining salary on his one-year contract. In return, Carolina sent Martin Necas to the Avalanche, along with forward Jack Drury, a 2025 second-round pick and a 2026 fourth-round pick. Taylor Hall also made his way from Chicago to Carolina, in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick. The Hurricanes also received the rights to prospect Nils Juntorp in the deal.
